[How to wear a two-part type kimono]
- Place the obi on your belly and wrap it around your waist twice.
- Insert the obi front plate between the obi and the kimono.
- Wind the tare (sagging part) of the obi to the back and tighten the obi slightly. Then tie a knot. Make sure that the tesaki is facing up when you finish tying the knot.
- Twist the tesaki on the left to the right.
- Place an obi-makura at 35 cm above the end of the tare.
- Fold the obi around the obi-makura twice. Make sure not to make a ruck on the folding.
- Tie the obi-makura strings together at your right chest.
- Put an obi-age on the obi-makura.
- Pull the tare up and wind it approximately 3 cm over the top edge of the obi. Also, tuck the tare approximately 3 cm under the obi.
- Wind the obi-age around your body, fold both ends in four, and tie them together at your chest.
- Tuck the center portion of the knot of the obi-age under the obi.
- Tuck both ends of the obi-age under the obi.
- Make sure the obi-age is not rumpled at the front and cleanly tucked under the obi.
- Now you are ready to make the taiko (back knot).
- First, you must finish folding the tare tesaki (opposite end of the first tesaki) that was left folded in half.
- Fold the tesaki in half.
- Fold the tesaki from the right to the left and roll the tare under the tesaki.
- Pass the obi-jime through the folded tesaki and tie the ends together tightly at your belly so the knot does not come loose.
- Tuck the loose ends under the obi-jime.
- Now you are all set.
