[How to wear a two-part type kimono]

  1. Here are the accessories that come with the three-minute kimono.
  2. The Azumaeri (collar piece) that you wear as a substitute for the nagajyuban.
  3. The bunka obi comes in two separate parts, the front part and the back part.
  4. The obi accessories (a front plate, obi-makura, obi-age, and obi-jime)
  5. Shown in the back, is the three-minute kimono.
  6. Spread the kimono so that you can wear it.
  7. Place the Azumaeri on the back part of the kimono. The center of the collar piece must come at the center of the kimono. Velcro tapes will hold the Azumaeri into position.
  8. Now let's wear the kimono.
  9. Pull the strings at the back of the collar piece to the front and tie them at your belly.
  10. Fix the collar piece and wind the strings of the collar piece around your waist and tie them together at your belly.
  11. Wrap the right side of your kimono over the left side. Pass the string that is attached to the right side through the hole on the left underarm.
  12. Fix the collar again. Pull the rubber string on your left and right to the back, wind them around your waist and buckle them at your belly.
  13. Your kimono is now ready.
  14. Now let's wear the obi.
  15. Wear the obi front plate on your belly.
  16. Wear the front obi.
  17. Wrap the front obi around your waist, over the front plate.
  18. Pull the strings to the back, wind them around your waist and tie them at your chest.
  19. Put the taiko (back knot) of the obi on the back by inserting the attachment between the obi and kimono. Pull the strings to the front and tie them together at your chest.
  20. Pull the obi-age from your side to the front. Fold them into four, cross both ends at your belly and tie them together. Tuck in the rest of the obi-age under the obi.
  21. Now let's wear the obi-jime.
  22. Pass the obi-jime through the taiko on the back, wrap it around your body, and tie both ends at your belly.
  23. Tuck in the loose ends under the obi-jime.
  24. Now you are all set.
  25. It will look very cute if you use your favorite scarf as a substitute for the obi-jime. It is also a good idea to use it with some accessory.
